
Alexandra Shchekatikhina-Pototckaya

Alexandra Shchekatikhina-Pototckaya was a renowned porcelain painter and theater decorator, leaving behind a remarkable creative legacy. She began her artistic journey at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists, studying under the guidance of Nicholas Roerich. In Paris, she further honed her skills in the workshop of Maurice Denis.
In 1918, Shchekatikhina-Pototckaya became an artist at the Imperial Porcelain Factory, showcasing her talent and contributing to its artistic excellence. Her participation in the exhibitions of the "World of Art" further solidified her reputation. Subsequently, she embarked on a new chapter of her life, residing in Egypt and France fr om 1923 onwards, wh ere she married the esteemed member of the "World of Art" association, Ivan Bilibin.
In 1936, she returned to Russia, dedicating her efforts to porcelain artistry once again, working at a porcelain factory until 1955. Throughout her career, Shchekatikhina-Pototckaya demonstrated her exceptional talent across various artistic mediums. Her portfolio encompassed paintings, easel graphics, theatrical scenery, and costume designs, as well as book illustrations. However, it was within the realm of porcelain that her bright talent truly shone, showcasing her unique originality and artistic vision. During her formative years at the Society for the Encouragement of Artists, she had the privilege of learning from esteemed masters associated with the "World of Art," including Nicholas Roerich, Jan Tsionglinsky, and Ivan Bilibin at the porcelain factory.
