Alla Poret
/1902-1984/

Alla (Alisa) Poret, born in St. Petersburg on April 15, 1902, had a fascinating life. She pursued her education at the Annenschule and later studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. Alice continued her artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts under Petrov-Vodkin. After graduating, she joined the "Circle of Artists" but soon left to study under P.N. Filonov. Alice and her friend Tatiana Glebova, also a Filonov student, worked together and collaborated on various illustrations and children's books.

Alice had a close friendship with the renowned writer Daniil Kharms, marked by practical jokes, laughter, and creative endeavors. Their bond remained strong throughout the years, even during Kharms' exile. However, their relationship took a different turn after Kharms returned, as he sought companionship and a life partner. Alice, at the time, was torn between Kharms and another artist, Pyotr Pavlovich Snopkov. Eventually, she chose to marry Snopkov, which deeply affected Kharms but did not sever their friendship entirely.

Alice Poret's life continued with her marriage to the composer Boris Sergeevich Maisel from 1937 to 1961. She endured the hardships of World War II and lived in different cities before settling in Moscow from 1945 to 1984. Alice passed away in Moscow on February 15, 1984, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy as an artist and a woman who shared an enduring friendship with Daniil Kharms.
