Gevork Bashindzhagyan was an Armenian landscape painter and the founder of Armenian realistic landscape art. He was influenced by Archip Kuindzhi and his paintings are associated with the epic landscape tradition of Russian art. Bashindzhagyan painted mostly Armenian landscapes and his works were admired by his contemporaries, including the Armenian artist Martiros Saryan. He followed Kuindzhi's technique of working outdoors to create sketches and then completing the paintings in his studio. Bashindzhagyan's landscapes are characterized by simplicity of composition, attention to detail, and inclusion of the sky. He also painted many night landscapes.
