Ivan Kolesnikov was a notable painter and graphic artist, renowned for his contributions to the world of art. He was the younger brother of the esteemed painter Stepan Kolesnikov (1879-1955).

Although biographical information about the artist is scarce, we know that Kolesnikov studied at the Odessa Art College, graduating in 1907. Later that year, he joined the prestigious Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. In 1912, he achieved recognition and the title of artist for his exceptional painting "Autumn," which also granted him the opportunity to travel abroad for two years. During 1912-1914, he resided in France and Spain as a scholarship recipient. Upon his return, Kolesnikov settled in Petrograd (Leningrad) and focused primarily on landscape painting. He actively participated in academic exhibitions, showcasing his works to a wide audience. Kolesnikov was a member and exhibitor of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia. He also actively engaged in poster art, book illustration, and magazine illustration, leaving a lasting impact on these mediums.
