
Petr Geller

Petr Geller (Peyzakh Itskovich) was a painter and graphic artist born in 1862 in Kerch and died in 1933 (place of death unknown). He came from a Jewish family and in 1878 enrolled at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. He was awarded medals for his drawings and sketches from life several times: a small silver medal in 1881, small and large silver medals in 1883, and a large silver medal in 1885. In 1886, he completed the programmatic painting "St. Irene Heals St. Sebastian", for which he was awarded a small gold medal. In 1887, he was awarded a large gold medal for the program "Metropolitan Ordains Ivan the Terrible into the Monkhood". He graduated from the Academy with the title of First Degree Class Artist and the right to a pensioner's trip abroad. He worked in the genres of portrait and historical painting and participated in academic exhibitions. Not much is known about his later years of creative work. His works can be found in several museum collections, including the Scientific Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts.
