/1900-1968/

Semyon Malt was a renowned Soviet graphic artist known for his contributions to poster art, book engraving, and printmaking. He played a pivotal role in developing book and easel graphics in Uzbekistan and is considered one of the pioneers of printmaking in the region. Malt joined the creative association "Masters of the New East" upon arriving in Uzbekistan in 1927. He elevated posters to the realm of high art and gained recognition for his landscapes depicting the beauty of nature, challenging prevailing beliefs about Soviet viewers' preferences.

Malt's collaboration with the Tashkent graphics team at Chirchikstroy in 1940 was significant in his career. The artists dedicated over a year to the project, creating satirical sketches, portrait galleries, and genre scenes. Malt's "Chirchikstroy" series of easel sheets, exhibited in 1940, showcased this experience. During World War II, Malt served as a soldier but continued his artistic pursuits, carving engravings and creating propaganda posters. Upon returning to Tashkent, he produced notable graphic sheets and engaged in political poster design, book illustration, and cover design. Malt's posters gained widespread recognition. He often embarked on creative journeys, capturing landscapes and portraits during visits to collective farms and national construction sites.
