Sofia Zaklikovskaya
/1889-1975/

Sofia Zaklikovskaya was a Russian artist born on April 4, 1899, in St. Petersburg. Her father was a captain in the Tsarist Army, and she was the youngest of seven children. After attending the women's gymnasium in Pskov, she studied at the State Free Art Workshops and later joined the Higher Art and Technical Institute in Petrograd.

Under the influence of Pavel Filonov, a leading figure in the "Masters of Analytical Art" group, Sofia became an active participant in the group and designed the House of Printing. Her most famous work, "Old and New Life," depicted contrasting pre-revolutionary and socialist ways of life. However, after the group's dissolution, she focused on raising her daughters and limited her artistic involvement.

During the war, she was evacuated with her family to various regions and engaged in painting in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. After returning to Leningrad, she worked in different workshops and painted decorative staged still lifes in a realistic manner. Sofia Zaklikovskaya passed away on March 1, 1975, at the age of seventy-six, and was buried at the Serafimovsky Cemetery. Her works are housed in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
