Born in St. Petersburg in 1850, Vasily Schreiber was a renowned artist with a deep connection to Russia. He received his education at the Revelskaya Classical Gymnasium and later studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts fr om 1879 to 1883.

After graduating from the Academy, Schreiber was invited to contribute to the decorative painting of temples and palaces, wh ere he showcased his mastery in creating paintings that harmonized with the overall artistic concept of the space. His works depicted biblical scenes for church interiors and mythological motifs for state halls. The unity of his artistic vision and compositional execution left a lasting impression on both his contemporaries and future generations.

During his three-year stay in Italy from 1886 to 1888, Schreiber further honed his skills by studying the works of the old masters. Inspired by Italian architecture, he painted landscapes featuring famous monuments, historical ruins, serene sea views, majestic mountains, and bustling city streets. His art showcased impeccable brushwork and a vibrant palette, which he continuously renewed through his unwavering study of nature.

Returning to Russia, Vasily Schreiber dedicated himself to teaching porcelain painting at the school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts.
