Veniamin Belkin

Veniamin Belkin was a painter, graphic artist, and theatrical set designer born in Verkhoturye in the Perm Governorate. He studied under artist Mikhail Shesterkin and attended the private art school of Anatoly Bolshakov from 1903 to 1905. He actively participated in exhibitions of art associations such as "World of Art", "Union of Youth", "Sixteen", and "Society of Artists". From 1919 to 1921, he made drawings for porcelain plates at the State Porcelain Factory. Belkin's paintings are characterized by quick, impulsive strokes, executed energetically and boldly, and his porcelain plates mainly feature subject images in the center and text around the edge of the dish.

Belkin's works were exhibited at the First Exhibition of Russian Art in Berlin in 1922, as well as in New York and Boston in 1924. From 1921 to 1946, he taught painting at the Petrograd Academy of Arts, and from 1924 to 1927, he taught drawing at the Leningrad State Architectural Institute.
