Vitaly Tikhov
/1876-1939/

Vitaly Tikhov was a painter known for his exquisite portraits and genre paintings. Born in the Kyiv province, he received his education at the Morshansky Real School. In 1896, he joined the Imperial Academy of Arts as a free listener.

In 1912, he earned the prestigious title of artist and gained the right to study abroad for his painting "Bathers." In 1916, he became a member of the Association of traveling art exhibitions.

Vitaly Tikhov was particularly drawn to painting nudes, portraying them without allegorical symbolism. His works are akin to sketches of models, often featuring his wife as the main subject. He skillfully accentuated the beauty and delicacy of their skin while complementing it with vibrant-colored draperies. His paintings exude an impressionistic freshness and possess a decorative quality that harmonized seamlessly with the interiors of that era.
