Boris Gurvich
/1905-1985/
Boris Gurvich was a student of Pavel Filonov at the Academy of Arts in 1925 and remained connected to his teacher throughout his life. He was a member of the Filonov Society of "Masters of Analytical Art" and participated in exhibitions and design work for theatrical productions in the 1930s, including a movie assistantship with Erast Garin for the comedy "Marriage". After the war, Gurvich continued to collaborate with theaters but eventually became cut off from the audience after 1960.
During the 1960s-1970s, Gurvich worked on a variety of art projects, including lithographs, pencil drawings, watercolors, paintings, and stained-glass window designs for a hotel in Norilsk. However, he was not able to regain the attention of the public during the last 25 years of his life. Despite this, his connection with Filonov and his contributions to the world of art remain significant.
